June 4th 2021 – The NC Court of Appeals has ordered the City of Asheville to stop demolition of the Vance Monument. The order says that the Citynof Asheville must retain all parts of the monument already taken down. This includes all bricks, granite blocks, plaques, and base.
The city currently has the road shut down around the monument for demolition and has to stay shut down until further notice from the court.
Speculation is that the court will make the City of Asheville rebuild the monument due to laws broken by the City of Asheville.
