ASHEVILLE POLICE LOOK FOR MAN ALLEDGEDLY STEALING CATALYTIC CONVERTERS – SOUTH ASHEVILLE

Detectives need your help identifying a man suspected of stealing several catalytic converters.

At 3 a.m. on May 6, officers responded to a theft call in the area of Sweeten Creek Road and Busbee View Road. The investigation determined that 8 catalytic converters had been stolen.

The man is believed to be driving a mid-2000’s, dark-colored Ford Fusion.

Catalytic converters have economic value as they contain precious metals. This is the reason why they are stolen. They contain rhodium, palladium and platinum, which are among the most precious metals.

Websites indicate recyclers pay $50 to $200 for catalytic converters.
